Before you start
All the apps are on the download page, and it picks the right file for whatever device you open it on. Install the app you need, sign in, type your key, and from then on it keeps itself up to date.

The Central Pedal arrives ready to go, so there's nothing to install on it. See The Central Pedal for the first start.
I haven't signed the apps with paid Apple and Microsoft certificates yet, so Windows and Mac ask you once, the first time. The steps below show what to press.
Windows
- Download the
.exefor your app from the download page. You need Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. - Open it. Windows will say "Windows protected your PC".
- Click More info, then Run anyway. It installs and opens by itself.
Mac
- Download the
.dmgfor your Mac. Pick Apple Silicon if your Mac has an M1 or newer chip, or Intel if it's from before 2021. - Open it and drag the app into Applications.
- Open the app once. The Mac won't open it because it can't check who made it. Click Done.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway next to the app's name and confirm.
- Allow the microphone when it asks. The apps need it for your audio interface, the in-ears, the tuner and the instrument.
If the Mac says the app "is damaged", it isn't. Open Terminal and run the line for that app:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Central Control.app"xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/CentralUsage.app"xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Central Pedal Control.app"xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Central Production.app"Linux
The quickest way is one line in Terminal. Open it (Ctrl+Alt+T on Ubuntu), paste the line for your app, press Enter and type your password when it asks. It finds the newest version, checks the download and installs everything the app needs. On Ubuntu, Debian, Mint and Pop!_OS you get the .deb. On any other Linux you get the AppImage in ~/Applications, with a menu entry. Run the same line again whenever you want to reinstall or update.
Central Control
curl -fsSL https://motionaudio.org/install.sh | bash -s controlThen open Central Control from your app menu, or type central-control. Installing it also tidies up any old menu entries and desktop icons.
Central Usage
curl -fsSL https://motionaudio.org/install.sh | bash -s usageCentral Pedal Control
curl -fsSL https://motionaudio.org/install.sh | bash -s pedal-controlCentral Services
curl -fsSL https://motionaudio.org/install.sh | bash -s servicesCentral Production
curl -fsSL https://motionaudio.org/install.sh | bash -s productionDoing it by hand
- For a
.deb, download it from the download page, then runsudo apt install ./<the file>.debin the folder you saved it to. Don't leave out the./. Each app installs alongside the others. - For an AppImage, right-click it, choose Properties → Permissions → Allow executing file as program, then double-click it. AppImages need FUSE 2:
sudo dnf install fuse-libson Fedora,sudo pacman -S fuse2on Arch.
Central Control's mixer, in-ears and recording talk to your audio interface through PipeWire's JACK. The .deb asks for pipewire-jack; if it's missing, sudo apt install pipewire-jack adds it.
Android
Central Usage, Central Pedal Control and Central Services run on Android 6 or newer.
- On the phone or tablet, open the download page and tap Download for Android.
- Open the
.apkfrom your Downloads or the browser's notification. - Android asks once whether your browser may install apps. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, go back and tap Install.
- Open the app while you're on the church Wi-Fi. In Central Usage, tap Find the main admin. In Central Pedal Control, set up your songs and Upload them to the pedal.
iPhone and iPad
The App Store versions aren't out yet. Until they are:
- Central Usage runs in Safari, straight from the main admin's computer. Join the church Wi-Fi and open
http://<main admin's address>:8095/cu/. Choose User 1 or User 2, type the pairing PIN, then tap Share → Add to Home Screen. After that it opens full screen like an app, and it's always the same version as the main admin's. The address is in the main admin's Central Control, under Settings → This computer. - Central Services works in Safari on this website. Open Central Services.
- Central Pedal Control on an iPad: on the same Wi-Fi as the pedal, open
http://padpedal.local:8080/control/in Safari (or the pedal's address followed by:8080/control/), then tap Share → Add to Home Screen. It opens full screen with ● Live, Upload and Download. - Central Production runs in the browser on this website. Open Central Production. Your projects are the same ones you'd see in the app on a computer.
The Central Pedal
We build each pedal and send it with its card in and the software installed and tested. It doesn't need a key. The first time it starts, you set it up from your phone:
- Plug in the power and your outputs. A screen on HDMI 1 (the micro-HDMI port next to the power socket) is optional.
- On your phone, join the Wi-Fi called Central Pedal Setup. The pedal makes it the first time it starts, and the setup page should open by itself. If it doesn't, go to
http://10.42.0.1. - Pick your church's Wi-Fi and type its password.
- Type a 4-digit code. If your church uses Central Control, use the main admin's code. That's what pairs the two. If not, any 4 digits will do. Central Pedal Control uses the same code when you Upload songs.
- Press Upload. The pedal joins your Wi-Fi and it's ready. If the password was wrong, "Central Pedal Setup" comes back after about a minute and the page tells you what happened.
The Central Pedal manual goes into more detail.
The pedal updates itself. It checks each time it starts and installs a new version after a 10-second notice, never while something's playing. If there's no internet at your church, download the pedal update, copy it to a USB stick, and on the pedal go to Settings → Software updates & backup → Update software from USB….
Signing in and your key
The first time an app opens, it asks for your key and your Motion Audio account. Your key is in the email you got when you bought it or when your church invited you. It's also on this website: click your account icon, then My products. Central Control also asks for your church's name and which jobs this computer does.
- Sign in with the account your invite email set up. Admins can share one account if your church prefers, but each musician has their own. Main admins and admins also get a code by text the first time they sign in on a new device.
- Type your key. It's 16 letters and digits.
- Join the Wi-Fi if the device isn't online yet.
| Key | For | Devices | Updates |
|---|---|---|---|
| P | Central Pedal Control (the pedal itself doesn't need a key) | Two | Forever |
| A | Central Control, for main admins and admins | One computer | Ten releases, then $20 for ten more |
| U | Central Usage, for musicians and singers | Two, say one at church and one at home | Ten releases, then $20 for ten more |
| S | A sound plan, added in any app under Settings → Packages & key → Add a package | Three of your own devices, each a different app | As long as the plan, which renews every year |
An A or U key bought at 10.4 gets every update up to 11.4, fixes included. If you don't renew, the apps don't stop working. They stay on the version they have. To move a key to another device, press Release key under Settings → Packages & key in the app, or do it on the website.
Updates
- On Windows, Mac and Linux, the apps check for a new version each time they open and install it after a short notice, never while something's playing. You can turn automatic installs off in the app's settings and check by hand instead.
- On Android, the app checks when it opens. The new
.apkdownloads and Android shows Update. One tap and you're done. - Central Usage in Safari is always on the main admin's version, so there's nothing to do.
- Updates never touch your songs, setlists, settings, key or sign-in.
Uninstalling
- Release the key first (Settings → Packages & key → Release key) so you can use it on another device.
- On Windows, go to Settings → Apps, find the app and choose Uninstall.
- On a Mac, drag the app from Applications to the Bin.
- On Linux, run
sudo apt remove central-control(orcentralusage,central-pedal-control,central-services,central-production). For an AppImage, delete the file in~/Applicationsand its menu entry in~/.local/share/applications. - On Android, press and hold the app and choose Uninstall.
